FORMER transport boss Roy Wicks recieved his OBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace this week.
Roy, who retired in March as director general of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, was awarded the honour for services to public transport.

He said: "It was an amazing experience to meet the Queen – something I will never forget.

"There were lots of people who received awards at the same time for some fantastic things and it was a privilege to share the honour with them."

Roy worked in the public sector for 40 years and over the last decade helped to shape the future of SYPTE.

Projects achieved under his leadership include the refurbishment of Sheffield station, the introduction of Travel South Yorkshire and paving the way for integrated TravelMaster and Yorcard tickets.
