NEARLY 200,000 people can now enjoy free bus travel as the final batch of passes are despatched by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.
The company was inundated with applications after it sent out 225,000 letters informing people of the new national passes – and around 200,000 took up the offer.
It has taken a month to process the flood of applications from people over the age of 60 or mobility impaired. The only forms still to be dealt with are those containing errors.
Director general David Brown said: "This has been a major task for us but I am pleased to say that virtually all the passes applied for before April 1 have now been dealt with."
Holders of the new pass are entitled to free off-peak travel anywhere in England.
