ANOTHER chapter has been marked in the proposed relocation of Broomhill library.
Plans have been submitted for a library as part of a redevelopment of the site of the former headquarters of the epilepsy charity Fable in Ashgate Road.
Sheffield developers Crownholme Ltd are seeking council approval to demolish the Ashgate Road
building to make way for a library, a restaurant or café and ten apartments in a four-storey building. They are working with city architects Bond Bryan.
The council is looking to close the existing library in Taptonville Road because the premises are out of date and difficult for disabled people to use. It is expected that the Taptonville building will be converted for residential or commercial use.
Members of the Broomhill Action and Neighbourhood Group are urging the council to ensure the new library can meet the needs of communities other than Broomhill.
"There is serious concern that the new library would be too small and therefore unable to meet future needs, particularly as it also serves Fulwood, Crosspool, Ranmoor and Crookes, which do not have libraries," says the community group.
