TOP fashion names are lining up to become part of the New Retail Quarter – but Harvey Nicholls will not be among them.
The £600m shops complex is being designed to provide big modern retail units of the kind that property experts say Sheffield currently lacks.

Councillors heard that "quality" fashion chains such as Zara and Mango could be expected to move in.

Next, too, is expected to take a large store to replace its small premises in Fargate

"Are we going to have a Harvey Nicholls?" asked former Lord Mayor Coun Jackie Drayton at a council planning board.

The council's NRQ project director, Ron Rees, broke the disappointing news: "Harvey Nichols have all the stores they want in the UK with stores in the North in Leeds and Manchester."

But he added: "We are getting the most modern John Lewis store in the country, which will be double the size of the existing one."
