A WILDLIFE group and MP have protested against plans to convert a former riding trekking centre into a full livery yard with a block of 10 stables on a South Yorkshire green belt site.
Planning officers fear the proposals for land earmarked a special landscape area near the north Derbyshire and Sheffield boundary could have a detrimental impact on the surrounding area and have recommended the scheme be refused.
The North East De
rbyshire District Council planning officer made the recommendation to the council after the planning application was submitted for the site at Moss Valley Rides, Sicklebrook Lane, Coal Aston, for Rachel Eggleston.
The eight-acre site is also in the Moss Valley Conservation area and Moss Valley Wildlife Group are among objectors claiming the development would lead to overgrazing, the potential for horse riders to ride on public footpaths plus traffic and parking problems on Sicklebrook Lane.
And there have been 45 letters of objection including two via North East Derbyshire MP Natasha Engel, many claiming the development would be an eyesore and detrimental to the area.
The planning officer has recommended refusal of planning permission because the size and appearance of the stable building would detract from the character of the special landscape area and the Moss Valley Conservation Area.
The scheme would also be contrary to the North East Derbyshire Local Plan.
