THE Peak Village shopping outlet is setting out its stall to attract more visitors following the appointment of new managing agents.
The Rowsley-based centre is now in the hands of two prominent local businessmen, who are promising a shake-up of the shops and attractions on offer.

The new managing partners are Terence Morgan, a director of Belper-based chartered surveyors Morgan & Co, and Martin Langsdale, a partner in BB&J, commercial property estate agents of Derby.

Both men live in the area and say they want to bring a "more sympathetic and personal touch" to the management of the centre, which currently features established national retailers such as Cotton Traders, Mountain Warehouse and The Works.

"Peak Village already offers visitors a unique opportunity to combine shopping with nearby attractions, such as Chatsworth, in a superb outdoor environment," says Martin.

"There is great potential for improvement and development of the facilities and the overall experience, with the potential of a significant increase in visitor numbers over time.

"We are now devising a plan that will help take Peak Village to the next level. Terence and I are excited about creating a vibrant and busy shopping centre with excellent facilities."

One of the first tasks for the partnership is to work on a programme of events which will be attractive to visitors, the local community and retail tenants.

The Peak Village, which opened in 1999, currently attracts around 750,000 visitors a year.

Standup Wheeze,

still shopping 29/08/2008 11:33:58
It's not an especially attractive centre even for those sad people for whom shopping is their main interest. It tends to attract folks who wander about Bakewell in beige and tartan linings with their arms folded gorping at cafe menus and tutting about the bacon sandwich prices.
An Adult shop could attract a different breed of shopper and inject a little life into the centre.
