SHEFFIELD poet and storyteller Debjani Chatterjee had a date at Buckingham Palace yesterday to be presented with her MBE awarded in the New Year Honours List.
The investiture of the award for services to literature had previously been postponed because of ill health. Dr Chatterjee, 55, has been undergoing treatment for a rare form of breast cancer diagnosed last summer.

She was accompanied by her husband, Brian D'Arcy, mother Tara Chatterjee, and uncle, Dr Tridibesh Mukherjee. and it represented a double celebration for the family as the previous day Dr Mukherjee was presented with the 2008 Bessemer Gold Medal for his service to the steel industry.

A director of the Tata Steel Group Director, he has a doctorate from the University of Sheffield and lived in the city for some years when working for British Steel.

"I feel very lucky," said Dr Chatterjee. "I have much to celebrate this July. There is also my 25th wedding anniversary and my return to health in spite of the awful prognosis that I was initially given."
