SHEFFIELD'S new inner relief road has been short-listed for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.
Judges described the project as "a new generation of relief road that appears more like a boulevard than a by-pass".

They praised the standards of design, construction, procurement, financial management, environmental sustainability and economic a
nd social value.

The award is part of the British Construction Industry Awards, sponsored by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and the Office of Government Commerce.

Council cabinet member Ian Auckland described it as a major achievement, adding: "The inner relief road has been successful in improving the flow of traffic around the north eastern quadrant of the city centre and is a key part in the overall plans to regenerate the city centre."
