A COUNCIL grant of up to £16,000 is being suggested to help the Somali community in Sheffield, which the authority describes as "one of the most disadvantaged" in the city.
The Somali population is estimated at between 2,000 and 5,000, mainly concentrated in Broomhall, Burngreave, Darnall and Firth park.
Concerns centre around educational attainment, school exclusions and unemployment, with "no evidence of improvement in the last few years", says the council. A grant to the Sheffield Somali Community Centre will be considered by the council's cabinet on Wednesday.
