AN ARTIST visiting Sheffield to exhibit his work at a city gallery has been left devastated after his laptop computer and camera containing work from the past five years were stolen from the site.
Ben Cain was working on his exhibition at the Site Gallery in Brown Street – a venue which is designed to allow visitors to meet and interact with the artists – when the laptop and camera were swiped from a storeroom.

The London-based artist, who uses several mediums including video, sound and photography, was shocked to discover that they had gone.

The 33-year-old said: "I am feeling awful. I am absolutely devastated. There is years of work stored on that laptop and pictures on the camera.

"It won't be worth much to anyone selling it on – it's worthless – but its priceless to me."

Ben said he was realistic about the lack of hope his equipment – bought new for more than £2,000 – will be returned, but added: "If I could just get the data back which is on the computer, that would be great."

Police are investigating the incident, which happened between 11.30am and 12.30pm on Thursday October 2. Anyone with information should contact PC Rachael Burgin at West Bar Police Station on 0114 296 4131, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

- TWO men were arrested on suspicion of burglary after officers were called to a property by concerned neighbours who had heard noises from the empty house.

They were found in the house on Eyre Street East, Chesterfield, just before 11pm and taken to the town's police station for questioning.
