CONTROVERSIAL proposals to redevelop the former Hallam Tower Hotel in Manchester Road, Broomhill, into a housing development will be discussed by councillors on Monday, after a decision was delayed for further public consultations and to allow councillors to visit the site.
Representatives of communities in Broomhill, Endcliffe, Ranmoor and Crookes have expressed a range of concerns about the scheme.
Star's charity date
SINGER Tony Christie will join a family of fundraisers to help present a £6,000 cheque today to Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
He was enlisted by friend Jim Beachill, and his two grandchildren, Jack, 12, a
nd Elishia, 10, after the trio walked the length of Hadrian's Wall. Elishia is believed to be one of the youngest people to complete the 84-mile hike.

Supertram staff ballot
SUPERTRAM staff are to be balloted on an improved pay deal.
Members of the Unite union were considering a two-day walkout after rejecting an offer from operators Stagecoach. But further talks have led to an improved offer.

Students take stock
NINETEEN students from schools across the region were given an insight into the world of stocks and shares on a trip organised by the University of Sheffield's outreach team.
As part of the university's Professions Progression Partnership, they visited the London Stock Exchange to give them a taste of the money markets in action.

Extra parking plea
COUNCILLORS have received a 750-name petition asking for extra parking space on the grass bank opposite shops and businesses in Birley Spa Lane.
