SHEFFIELD’S latest Off the Shelf Festival was launched on Monday.

Lord Mayor Coun Sylvia Dunkley officially opened the literary event at a ceremony at the Crucible that included readings by writer Martyn Johnson and poet River Wolton, music from The Crookes and a performance by the hip hop theatre group Rationale.

Cabinet member Coun Helen Mirfin-Boukouris said: “We expect an audience of well over 22,000 this year.

“The city will be buzzing as the festival provides a platform for all forms of expression through words and through stimulating the motivation to read.”

Off The Shelf runs from October 8 to 29.
