Police are investigating the rape of a 15-year-old girl in a Sheffield park.

Detectives want to speak to a black man with a London accent in connection with the attack in Longley Park, Longley on Wednesday, July 1.

The assault occurred on the hottest day of the year at about 7.30pm.

Police have been carrying out extensive enquiries, reviewing CCTV footage, carrying out house-to-house visits and forensic examinations.

Officers have also stepped up patrols in the park.

Detective Inspector Steve Ashmore said: "We have a team of officers dedicated to working on this inquiry and are committed to finding the person responsible.

"The attack happened in the early evening and it would still have been daylight on a day that was the hottest day of the year by some margin.

"I am hoping that this will jog someone's memory as I am confident that someone will have seen something that could assist with our enquiry.

"The victim is being supported by specially-trained officers during this difficult time. Such attacks are thankfully rare and I'd urge anyone with information to come forward to tell us what you know."

The man is described as a black man with a London accent and short black hair. He is around 6ft 1ins tall, of slim build, and wore a black top with black Bench jeans.

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 143 of July 18 2015. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
