FIREFIGHTERS’ lives were put at risk after an unoccupied Sheffield house was set alight for the second time in a month.
Two firefighters searched the smoke-logged semi-detached home on Lindsay Avenue, Sheffield Lane Top, looking for victims after a fire was lit in the front bedroom.
They had to negotiate ripped-up floorboards and ceilings, in darkness, after thieves stole copper piping in the heating system, a fire spokesman said, but no-one was found.
The incident in the early hours of yesterday comes a month after a blaze was started in a back bedroom.
It spread to the adjourning house, forcing the occupants to flee. The fire spokesman said they had not returned before yesterday’s blaze.
