CARING Sheffielder Ceri Rodgers braved the heat to raise more than £1,700 in the Sheffield Half Marathon.

Ceri, aged 37, from Norton, was running for Weston Park Hospital in support of friend Paula Wright, from Arbourthorne, who is being treated for recurrence of breast cancer.

Ceri, who was cheered on at the finish by Paula, 42, said: “The inspirational thing is Paula is so glamorous and makes such an effort despite her condition.

“She still thinks of others first and is tremendously strong.”

Paula offered to buy her friend a bottle of bubbly in appreciation of her hard work - with Ceri having put in nine months’ training.

Ceri was also supported by Oliver Maltby, 12, of Hallamshire Harriers athletics club. Ceri said: “So far, I have raised £941 from donations on the internet, £315 in cash plus Gift Aid. The support has been phenomenal.”
