Guests at Eat Sheffield’s Gala Awards Dinner later this month will be sure of tucking into the freshest produce – thanks to the event’s latest sponsor, Castle Market.

Organiser Niki Baker has given the market a shopping list that includes 34kg of potatoes, 34kg of root veg and 42kg of green vegetables.

Markets Manager Andy Chappell said: “We’re pleased to help; it’s good to be part of this city celebration.

“All our produce is delivered overnight, direct to Castle Market, which means it’s as fresh as you can get – at a really great price. Our shoppers also get personal service from traders who really know their onions!”

The market in Exchange Street comprises more than 200 stalls, including fresh meat and fish as well as greengrocery. Six fruit and veg stalls offer local and organic produce alongside exotic fresh produce from all over the world.

Andy added: “From asparagus and aubergine, to tomatoes and turnips, it’s all here – with the added advantage of years of trader experience, knowledge and free advice that any supermarket would shake a fist at.”

Other sponsors of the awards on October 24 include Catherine’s Choice, which is supplying chutney to accompany the main course, Cafeology, with freshly ground coffee, and Our Cow Molly, which is donating fresh milk.

Niki Baker said: “It’s great to be able to showcase products from Sheffield. This city has so much to be proud of and the awards are a chance for us to really shout about it.”
