Cake creations raised almost £100 to boost the appeal for a biography of fundraiser John Burkhill.

Rocky road brownies and caramelised onion flans were among the dishes sold at The Star offices on York Street for the cause yesterday.

Money raised will go towards the £2,500 needed so that Macmillan Cancer Support can print a book about the life of John, also known as the ‘mad man with the pram’ for his daily perambulations around Sheffield.

In turn the book will help the 76-year-old from Richmond, who opened The Star cake sale, to reach his £1 million target for Macmillan.
