Barton on the smoking ban

I used to smoke up to 60 per day but stopped completely in 1992, so I'm one of those terrible reformed smokers!

I personally love the smoking ban and think that it was entirely inevitable. I'm convinced that future generations will look back and laugh at the fact that people used to be able to smoke on buses, cinemas, in offices and in bars. It's great to be able to meet people in bars and not come home smelling like an ashtray and in time I think this may help generate more business for bars.

The next step for me would be to make all cigarette manufactures only sell in uniform, unattractive packaging.

The one sad reality is that as cigarette companies are squeezed out of western markets they will target their efforts on poorer, less regulated places such as Africa and there is great evidence that this is happening more and more... but then that's what 'drug pushers' do - find markets!
