Big summer of books beckons

DERBYSHIRE youngsters are being invited to take on this year’s Summer Reading Challenge featuring free storytelling workshops and top trumps games.

Mungler’s Trumps swap shops, workshops with children’s book illustrator Lynne Chapman, and storytelling with Helen Appleton are among more than 100 events taking place in council libraries this summer.

And, as they are free, they offer families a cheap fun way to keep the kids busy during the long summer break.

Young readers are invited to join the challenge to read six library books in the summer holidays.

New to collect this year are top trump cards designed by author and illustrator Guy Bass who is launching this year’s challenge at Chesterfield Library today.
