THOUSANDS of Sheffield United supporters headed for an annual open day at Bramall Lane before a final pre-season fixture against Blackpool.

THOUSANDS of Sheffield United supporters headed for an annual open day at Bramall Lane before a final pre-season fixture against Blackpool.

Chris Morgan, Nick Montgomery, new players and Blades legend Tony Currie signed autographs.

Tony Currie said: “I ended up doing several hundred autographs and was working flat out. I’m at the open day every year and it’s a great event. The club needs to be doing things for its fans.”

Supporters who queued for his autograph were asked to make a £1 donation to Bluebell Wood Hospice Appeal.

Chris Morgan said: “I’ve been involved in many open days in my time at United. It’s great to see kids wearing their new shirts and running round the place, enjoying themselves. It has now become a custom that we start the season with an open day and everyone really enjoys the fun.”

The event also included tours of the newly-designed home dressing room, stalls, exhibitions and a funfair.

United’s managing director, Dave McCarthy, said: “It was a fantastic day. There was a real positive feeling about the place and I’d like to thank everyone who came along, including stallholders, volunteers, staff, players and, particular the fans.”

United and Blackpool drew 1-1.
