FORMER England cricket captain Michael Vaughan has been shortlisted as national Celebrity Fundraiser of the Year for his support of Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Michael, a patron of The Children’s Hospital Charity, raised £185,000 on his Great Wall of China Trek in September.

The seven-day journey saw Michael, wife Nichola, and a team of friends fly to Beijing to walk old and restored sections of the Great Wall to raise money for specialist surgical equipment.

The money will provide the hospital’s theatres with a surgical navigation system, which allows surgeons to see a real-time 3D map of the area they are operating on, leading to shorter, more accurate operations and faster recovery times.

“I’m amazed to have been shortlisted, it’s a real honour,” said Michael, who grew up in Sheffield.

“I’m so proud to support The Children’s Hospital Charity – Sheffield Children’s Hospital is an incredible place full of amazing people.

“I’m so pleased I was able to raise the profile of the hospital as well as a huge amount of cash for it.”

The winners of the JustGiving Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on March 1.
