Student volunteers are bringing back colour to the garden at Broomhill Library.
The keen gardeners are aiming to restore it to something like when the library opened in 1957 on the site of a former villa. The garden was recently discovered to be the work of English garden designer Percy Cane.
Staff at the Botanical Gardens have donated bulbs, and volunteer Helen Davies said: “We are also planting easy perennials to bring colour back to the garden – geraniums, flowering quince and pulmonaria – said to be good for the lungs.”
The library is now being run with the help of over 100 volunteers, including retired people and students. After a break, activities such as for children’s groups have been resumed.
