More than 200 local Brownies descended on Meadowhall on Monday for a 100th birthday conga.

Girls from Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley joined the event, part of a year-long set of challenges and adventures taking place nationally to mark the Brownies’ centenary.

Sarah Rackham, assistant Brownie leader in Rotherham, said: “Our Brownies all really enjoyed the conga - our biggest yet in the UK - through the lower malls of Meadowhall and it certainly amused shoppers.”

The Brownies, who were briefly called the Rosebuds, were formed by Lord Baden-Powell as girls sought their own version of the Scouts.
