They love their coffee in New Zealand.

“At home, the café is like the British pub and people expect high-quality coffee,” says Jonathan Perry, owner of Tamper Coffee.

Jon came to South Yorkshire at 16 to play football for Rotherham, then Wednesday and Barnsley FC.

After five years, he went back home, taking Rotherham girl Natalie with him. When they returned with their two children, they set up their coffee shop in 2012. It’s named after the polishing device used in the coffee-grinding process.

Every cup is made from Grumpy Mule beans, roasted in Holmfirth.

Flavour from Jon’s homeland is in the food; steak and cheese or lamb and mint pies are on the menu as are cakes and pastries and ciabatta sandwiches. Open daily until 4pm.
