A smartphone app that rewards better driving has been created for global insurance giant AIG by experts in Sheffield.
‘XLNTdriver’ monitors smoothness of driving, speed, time and mobile phone use - and starts automatically whenever you set off.
AIG, which has released it in Ireland, gives customers who use the app a five per cent discount on premiums - rising to 20 per cent subject to performance, on a scale of 1-100.
The app was created by The Floow, based on Joiner Street, Sheffield, after it was named preferred supplier of telematics - tracking - services to AIG globally.
The launch in Ireland is their first for AIG.
Sam Chapman, co-founder of the 30-strong company, said: “The app marks a milestone for The Floow, and the telematics industry as a whole.
“As a business we are committed to making driving safer and cheaper for all, and we are delighted to be working with partners such as AIG who share this ethos.”
The Floow has developed techniques that enable insurers, manufacturers and fleet operators to provide ‘actionable insights’ to increase customer loyalty and a return on investment.
AIG XLNTdriver is available to download for free at the iTunes or Google Store.
The Floow was born after Sam, who has a Phd from Sheffield University, teamed up with an old acquaintance, Aldo Monteforte, who had a vision for an innovative business that could ‘see’ how people drive.
Today it is an employee-owned organisation with clients worldwide, including Direct Line and claims to employ some of the leading experts in areas including computer science, data mining, driver psychology.
