THIRTY-SEVEN companies from sectors including engineering, recruitment and charitable have been announced as finalists in the 12 categories of the 10th annual Sheffield Business Awards.

The event at Ponds Forge on January 19, organised by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, will see more than 1,000 people from the city region’s come together to recognise the stars of the business community.

The awards, sponsored by Elevation Recruitment, are recognised as one of the key strands by which Sheffield promotes and profiles itself and its businesses.

A number of high profile companies and organisations have been recognised in the awards, including ESCO HYDRA (UK) Ltd, who have been shortlisted for two accolades – the Wake Smith Excellence in Manufacturing Award and the P&A Receivables Excellence in International Trade Award.

A trio of high profile figures from the region make up the shortlist for the Lupton Fawcett Business Person of the Year Award: James Hinchliffe (VOICE Group), Louisa Harrison-Walker (Benchmark Recruit) and Roger Pearson (Sizer Ltd).

Meanwhile, some of Sheffield’s up and coming entrepreneurs are shortlisted for the Benchmark Recruit Young Business Person of the Year honour. These are Neill Birchenall (BirchenallHowden Ltd), Rebecca Watson (Total HR) and Kate Senter (JCI Sheffield).

Other organisations to have been shortlisted include Westfield Health, Ferndale Garden Centre, Stagecoach Group, Bond Bryan Architects Limited and Brinsworth Academy of Engineering.

Kate Stephenson, events manager at Sheffield Chamber, said: “Interest in this year’s event has been unprecedented and, as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the awards, we have witnessed our highest number of entries to date.

“Submissions have come in from a blend of major international organisations to start-up businesses and the shortlist really highlights the diversity of the organisations we have in the region.

“We are really excited about celebrating business successes on the night.”

Top impressionist Jon Culshaw will again host the event.
