A host of companies have given their backing to a major business awards ceremony which will celebrate the best of business in the Sheffield City Region.

The 2012 Barnsley & Rotherham Business Awards will honour the achievements of the region’s top firms at Rotherham’s Magna Science Adventure Centre on Friday 19 October.

The Royal Bank of Scotland are sponsoring the Business of the Year Award while the following companies are also award sponsors: ASD Lighting, Barnsley Community Solutions, Bull Information Systems, Digital Region, Premier Waste & Recycling, Regional Manufacturing Forum, Rotherham Partnership, Rotherham United FC, Sheffield Hallam University, The Source and Yorkshire Training Partnership.

The awards will see the best of business do battle for 10 prestigious prizes, while the much-coveted Royal Bank of Scotland Business of the Year trophy will go to an ‘overall winner’ chosen from the outstanding performers in the other award categories.

Entries are now being accepted in the following categories:

n The Digital Region Most Promising Start-Up Award

n The ASD Lighting/Rotherham United FC Business Growth Award

n The Rotherham Partnership Business Community Impact Award

n The Regional Manufacturing Forum Excellence in Manufacturing Award

n The Barnsley Community Solutions Skills Development Award

n The Sheffield Hallam University Innovation & Technology in Business Award

n The Source Business Person of the Year Award

n The Premier Waste & Recycling Environmental Business Award

n The Bull Information Systems Excellence in Export Award

n The Yorkshire Training Partnership Apprentice of the Year Award

Andrew Denniff, Executive Director at Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are delighted to receive such strong backing from our sponsors and thank them for their support, which will enable worthy businesses to be honoured for their achievements during the ceremony.

“Entries for the categories are open to all Barnsley and Rotherham businesses and any other business who is a member of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce. The range of award categories caters for businesses of all sizes and sectors so businesses need to get their entries in and let us know great they are!”

n Entry forms are available to be downloaded from www.brchamber.co.uk along with the full category criteria. The final deadline for entries is Friday 14 September.
