B Braun showcases its brains in Sheffield

Healthcare company B Braun Medical has officially opened a showcase technical facility at its UK headquarters on the Thorncliffe Park Industrial Estate at Chapeltown.

The purpose-built facility will provide tailored service, support and educational programmes, covering its range of precision surgical instruments and medical equipment.

Sheffield’s Lord Mayor, Coun John Campbell joined Professor Hanns-Peter Knaebel and Dr Joachim Schulz from B Braun in Germany to perform the opening ceremony.

The Lord Mayor congratulated the company on its highly innovative technical building which put Sheffield at the forefront when it came to world-leading technology.

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce president, Jon Stewart, who also attended the ceremony, said: “The UK economy depends on designing and making technically-advanced products.

“I’m delighted that Sheffield is consolidating the city region’s reputation in the vanguard of the technology sector and the new B. Braun facility strengthens those credentials further. It will showcase the kind of technology that sets quality standards at the highest level, which is what makes this region a shining example of engineering expertise.”

The new centre will be home to B Braun’s Aesculap RENU operation, which provides and proactively maintains surgical instruments and equipment for hospitals, in addition to offering a range of certified technical education courses, and practical workshops for users on product construction, care and maintenance.

The facility employs 40 staff, including five instrument repair technicians, four medical equipment technicians and a team of 10 field service engineers.
