Campaigners claim Network Rail decision on woodland plans ‘does not go far enough’

Environmental campaigners have said Network Rail’s decision to halt plans to build a new railway line through woodland in the Peak District do not go far enough.

The Woodland Trust has welcomed the decision to cancel plans to build an extra track through woodland near Grindleford station.

But they have said they are disappointed that a linked scheme for extra tracks to be built in Dore will also damage the local environment.

Katharine Rist, Woodland Trust campaigner, said: “The Dore section will still cause loss to trees that currently buffer and protect ancient woodland, so further amendments must be made.”
