John Dunkley, the consort to the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, has even more reason to remember this year.
The husband of Lord Mayor Coun Sylvia Dunkley, who is an engineer, has received a PhD from Cambridge.
It was awarded for his contribution to scholarship in 20 of his 60 or more scientific papers published since 1974, all dealing with metal powders and atomisation.
The study has led to the successful business of Atomising Systems Ltd, in Meadowhall, which employs over 20 people and ships plant and metal powders around the world.
The award follows his honouring by election as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
John said: “It is most gratifying to seem my life’s work recognised by my old university and my peers.
“I have been receiving messages addressed to Dr Dunkley for years, so it will be pleasant not to have to tell correspondents that I am really a Mr!”
