Queen’s Award-winning Rotherham exporter Speciality Paperboard Containers is planning further growth with backing from Barclays Bank.
The Aldwarke Business Park-based company recently took on another eight employees after doubling staffing last year. Now, staffing could double again.
SP Containers makes innovative paperboard containers and lids for the food processing and packaging industry.
Customers include ice cream and confectionery companies and manufacturers of microwavable frozen foods.
After investing £1.5 million last year, SP now plans to make further investments in plant and machinery in the coming year.
Managing director Paul Nixon said: “Barclays has been very supportive and plays an integral part in our plans for future growth.
“With the new banking facilities in place, we are now able to focus on further growth plans.”
SP recently launched an online global trading portal, designed to help it to take maximum advantage of new opportunities.
Those include rising demand from Europe, which doesn’t seem to be affected by the economic climate or the strength of the pound.
“We are a very niche business and the products we make aren’t widely available in the European market, so we are picking up significant pieces of business from Europe and it doesn’t appear to be affected by exchange rates,” said Mr Nixon.
Paul Nixon puts SP Containers’ success in Europe down to service and quality.
The Rotherham firm primarily supplies ice cream businesses who value a supplier like SP that can rapidly respond to sudden increases in demand during hot spells.
Barclays’ Matthew Chenery said: “Speciality Paperboard Containers is a highly professional and progressive brand that is thriving despite the current economic challenges.
“The management’s ambitious growth plans are testament to their success and we look forward to seeing this forward thinking and ambitious business bring their aspirations to fruition.”
