Fancie cupcake founder Amanda Perry spoke yesterday of how public support has carried her through the liquidation of her company – and given her the drive to rebuild her business.

Fancie Ltd was put into voluntary liquidation with debts of £185,000 following a creditors meeting on Friday.

Liquidator Adrian Graham said: “It seems that the Meadowhall unit was a drain on the company’s finances and its debts include a five figure rates demand for the outlet there.”

The Meadowhall unit closed six weeks ago. There have been no job losses.

Amanda, who set up Fancie from her kitchen in 2007, has been inundated with messages of support: “It’s phenomenal – the messages on Twitter, emails and phone calls have been so touching,” she said.

Amanda has now set up a new company, FC & Co Ltd, which is running the shop and cafè in Sharrowvale Road, the Winter Gardens unit and the shop, bakery and bistro in Ecclesall Road.

“The local suppliers have stuck with us through all this and we’re determined there will be a future,” she said.
