Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has sent a message of thanks to individuals and businesses in South Yorkshire for efforts to kick-start the economy.
The Sheffield Hallam MP said ‘thousands of jobs’ have been created so far around the county after the area was given a City Deal by the Government.
The package gives greater local control on initiatives such as grants to help companies grow and construction of new infrastructure.
Mr Clegg, who has faced criticism in Sheffield over the Government’s austerity programme, said: “I am pleased to see that thousands of jobs have been created in the region this year thanks to our work in Sheffield. I want to thank everyone involved for what they have done.”
Other boosts for Sheffield have included investment in a new road under junction 34 at Meadowhall, Mr Clegg said.
