DLA Piper in Sheffield has been awarded the Best Partner award at Sheffield Hallam University’s Student and Learning Services (SLS) event, Celebrating Success as a result of its continuing support for the SHU student career mentoring scheme.
The award was collected by Dorrien Peters, associate in DLA Piper’s Litigation practice, following the firm’s support over the last four years to the University’s SLS Careers & Employment Service’s Career Mentoring Scheme.
Staff and students involved in the scheme were asked to nominate an external company, partner or supplier who goes the extra mile to meet service needs, find innovative solutions to problems and improve the SLS service for the benefit of those it works with.
Richard May, managing partner at DLA Piper in Sheffield, said: “The Career Mentoring Scheme is the perfect platform for our team to share their knowledge and experience for the benefit of Sheffield’s up and coming legal talent. Sheffield Hallam University produces some top quality young lawyers, many of whom go on to join DLA Piper through our training programmes, and we are pleased that our efforts helping those looking to break into the profession have proved to be so valuable.”
Annette Baxter from the SLS Careers Team submitted the nomination. She added: “DLA Piper has been a great supporter of this scheme over the last four years, with 18 members of staff from all kinds of roles in the firm giving up their time to provide valuable insight and support to SHU students as they prepare for the transition from University to employment.
“In particular Dorrien’s input and encouragement has made a significant difference to the students, helping several of them to secure training contracts and valuable experience.’’
