A BUSINESS support programme in Barnsley is celebrating being ahead of its target to help local companies create 450 new jobs in three years.
Enterprising Barnsley provides business coaching, funds SmartStart workshops for people thinking of setting up a business and backs the Genesis business support programme.
The organisation helped businesses create 161 jobs in the first year of its drive and is currently assisting 225 companies that want to develop and expand.
Its achievement in creating 630 new jobs and protecting 397 posts between 2009 and 2012.
Coun Linda Burgess, said: “We’re very pleased to see the creation of 161 much-needed jobs in the borough, in what has been a tough year for business.”
“It’s a great start for the second phase of the programme and shows that even in a recession it’s possible for businesses to survive and in some cases thrive.”
