The new Sheffield offices of a company which aims to double its workforce in the city have been opened by city MP Clive Betts.

Selima, which specialises in customised payroll software and managed service solutions for the public sector, has relocated from Hillsborough to state-of-the-art facilities at Sheffield Business Park.

Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts unveiled a plaque to mark the opening of the 6,000 sq ft facilities on the park’s Europa Green complex.

The MP, who was involved in the early regeneration of the former opencast site at Tinsley, welcomed the company’s arrival. He said: “I am delighted to be taking part in the opening of these offices which help this successful company expand even further.

“It is pleasing to see that new jobs are being created in my constituency despite the challenging economic conditions. In addition, the site of this new development has particular significance for me as I have been involved in its regeneration since the 1990s.”

Selima invested £1million in the move, partly funded by NatWest, to create a central hub for its payroll focused business. Mark Kinnell, owner and CEO, said: “Our investment shows confidence that this area is a key hub for both technology and service based businesses. Coupled with the recently announced Digital Region initiative, this further cements Sheffield as a thriving business centre”.

The company transferred its existing 30-strong workforce to the site in August and has already recruited 10 new members of staff to its new payroll service team. It plans to double the workforce during 2012 as the managed service side of its business grows.

“We are thrilled to be able to open our new service centre at Sheffield Business Park and offer jobs to people in the local community,” said Mr Kinnell. “The facilities on offer at the park are second to none, and offer excellent connectivity and accessibility for both staff and customers.”

He added: “The financial climate remains hard, but this investment signals our commitment to deliver payroll software and managed services to our customers throughout the UK for years to come.”

Sheffield Business Park managing director Graham Sadler said Selima’s arrival reinforced the site’s standing as a priority location for high-tech businesses.

“Selima is the latest dynamic, expanding business to be attracted by our strategic location and ability to deliver high-quality accommodation and a state-of-the-art infrastructure.”
