SHEFFIELD United have a new commercial director who used to work for Sheffield Wednesday.
Steve Coakley has joined the Blades from Rotherham United where he had been in a similar post for two-and-a-half years.
Previously he was at Derby County for 12 years and he was commercial manager at Hillsborough for five years.
The 35-year-old former Derbyshire Schools footballer, who lives in North Derbyshire, said: “It was a wrench to leave the Millers – particularly with all the excitement of a new stadium for next season. But Sheffield United is a fantastic opportunity.
“It is a club with enormous potential in a region that loves its football
“It is great to renew acquaintances in and outside the club. I’d like to think I am a familiar face in the Sheffield community which should help me play a part in the rebuilding of the Blades.”
Sheffield United chief executive Julian Winter said: “Steve will be vital in driving the club’s commercial activities. He is well-known in the Sheffield area and is a valuable addition as we strengthen our off-the-field team at Bramall Lane.”
