SHEFFIELD Hallam University graduate Conrad Thornton is through to the final round of the Barclays Bank Take One Small Step Competition with a chance of winning £50,000 to expand his business.

With more than 5,000 entries to this year’s competition, the 24-year-old’s eco-friendly advertising agency Green Street Media has been shortlisted as one of just three businesses in the final for the competition to win a £50,000 cash injection from the bank, and is looking for public votes to support his entry.

Set up in 2010 in Sheffield, Green Street Media offer a range of innovative advertising methods including ‘clean advertising’ - blasting off dirt from pavements to create ‘clean’ advert images which gradually wear away - and they offer the world’s first ‘temporary’ paint, available exclusively from Green Street Media across the UK.

The agency is also committed through a charity to planting a tree in Africa for every new advert, just another example of how Conrad’s company is setting the pace within the sustainable advertising industry.

With contracts for Sky TV and the Tower of London already under his belt, as well as various campaigns for eco-minded universities and colleges including The University of Sheffield and Dearne Valley College, he is hoping that winning the Barclays competition will provide a much needed springboard to expand his business across the UK and beyond.

He said: “Scooping the prize money would enable me to invest in new equipment and recruit more staff.

“It would help Green Street Media to fulfil its true potential.

“We have achieved a lot in a year, but with the support of the public, we can achieve so much more and local votes would be really appreciated.”

Conrad was previously a finalist in Sheffield Hallam University Enterprise Challenge 2010 and was the winner of the Shell Grand Ideas Award.

You can vote for Conrad online at www.takeonesmallstep.co.uk or by texting GREEN to 62555 (Texts only cost your standard network charge, one vote is allowed per person per voting method.) Voting is now open and will close on June 27. The winners will be announced on July 22.
