Health firm bought out by US giant

A SHEFFIELD health firm which provides medical equipment to the NHS has been bought out by an American multinational giant.

UK Medical Limited, which distributes specialised, single-use products to hospitals across the country, has been taken over by US firm CareFusion.

The firm, which is based on Lydgate Lane, Crosspool, employs 40 people.

Jim Mackenzie, chairman of UK Medical, said: “For more than 30 years, we have served the NHS and private medical sector with high-quality, high-technology medical products to help improve patient care. We look forward to continuing our track record of growth and innovation with CareFusion.”

UK Medical specialises in equipment for biopsies, cardiology, drainage, obstetrics and gynaecology, non-vascular stenting and surgery.

Gordon LaFortune, executive vice president at CareFusion, said: “We believe this acquisition will help us expand our long-standing partnership with UK Medical and better leverage the company’s clinical expertise.”
