Helping hand with work at hospice

SIX lawyers from DLA Piper’s Real Estate team joined a team from Yorkshire Bank to volunteer at St Luke’s Hospice.

The hospice cares for people, aged 18 and above, who have incurable illnesses and aims to help control symptoms, alleviate pain and provide the best possible quality of life for the patients who use it. It relies on the local community for funding and volunteer work.

The DLA Piper and Yorkshire Bank teams carried out improvements to the outdoor areas of the hospice including painting, tidying and clearing - important aspects that helped improve the environment and overall appearance of the facility.

Nigel Howard, Head of Real Estate at DLA Piper’s Sheffield office said: “We remain committed to our local community and have a longstanding relationship with Yorkshire Bank in Sheffield so were only too happy to roll our sleeves up and get involved in what we felt was a very worthy initiative.”

Fiona Pateman of Yorkshire Bank said: “The hospice’s work is admirable and this was a great opportunity for us to help a little, improving the surroundings of the hospice for the benefit of those who work and live there.”

Margot Walker, Corporate and Trust Fundraising Manager at St Luke’s Hospice added: “We are extremely grateful to DLA Piper and Yorkshire Bank for giving up some of their time. This is team work at its best and it is great to see the local business community taking such an active interest in our work.”
