All Sheffield Chamber’s past presidents are to be given honorary membership to thank them for their contribution.
Chamber executive director Richard Wright said: “We often lose contact with them as individuals even though their companies stay in membership and this is a great pity because they have put a lot into the Chamber and still have much to offer.
“By awarding them honorary membership we are recognising their contribution as individuals.
“The chamber is proud of the job it does for business and we want them to be part of that and recognise the heritage that got us here.
“They are part of a great brand that is, in turn, part of Team Sheffield.”
Several past presidents are already performing valuable tasks for the chamber – Nick Tovey continues to chair the South Yorkshire Chamber Group and the Sheffield City Region Sustainability Forum and Yuri Matischen is responsible for the Sport, Leisure and Tourism Forum.
Mr Wright added: “These are relatively recent presidents but we want to extend that back and get more past presidents involved.”
