Kennedys advised Sheffield United Football Club group (SUFC) in one of the city’s biggest business reshaping deals of 2010.
The law firm was instructed to assist with the restructuring of aspects of the club and financing of part of the group in a multi-million pound package.
The work was handled by lawyers in Kennedy’s new Sheffield office, after the firm’s appointment as principal legal team for the football Championship club earlier this year.
Kennedys acted for SUFC on all the construction, corporate, commercial, banking and property matters.
Kennedys partner Andrew MacCuish said: “Our team ensured that the restructuring was completed smoothly and it undoubtedly showcased our ability to handle work of this nature and complexity.”
Kennedys teamed up with United in a three-season sponsorship deal for the Kop Stand at the club’s Bramall Lane stadium earlier this season.
Suzanne Liversidge, Kennedys’ senior partner, said: “The work we’ve completed strengthens our existing close relationship with Sheffield United. As a passionate Blade and a key sponsor, I am delighted that we have been appointed legal advisors and been instructed to assist on such an important deal which has helped reshape the club and plan for the future.”
Sheffield United Chief Executive Trevor Birch commented: “Kennedys acted for us on what was a substantial restructuring and finance project. It was a very complex series of different transactions involving a diverse range of parties which was brought together and undertaken at one time.”
