Appeal over Sheffield car park rejection
News: Sheffield Telegraph online 24-hours a day.
AN APPEAL has been lodged with the Government after Sheffield City Council rejected an application for the continued use of land at Kelham Island as a temporary long stay car park.
The council says long-stay spaces on the site of the former Richardsons cutlery factory off Alma Street, opposite the Fat Cat pub, encourages commuter parking and traffic congestion at peak times. It also has concerns about the access, layout and security.
Now a Government-appointed planning inspector will consider written submissions from both sides of the case.
Council permission was granted seven years ago for 172 apartments, business premises and a car park - before the recession.
