Dead World Leaders tackling live issues
"WE never wanted to be like a normal band that sings about getting drunk or getting the girl," said Dead World Leaders bassist Rob Nicholson.
The band have had a steady ascent up the rock and roll ladder, whose rungs include supporting Reverend and the Makers, Little Man Tate and the Arctic Monkeys.
Far from the gritty girl-in-the-club lyrics of Dead World Leaders' contemporaries, the band's songs question current affairs and conventional attitudes to living.
Song titles are philosophical, such as The Start of the End Begins and The Right Side of Wrong, and lyrics cover issues such as abandonment, doubt, trust and confusion.
"We've got a song called the House of Frauds – it's a topical one about not trusting the people you should be able to," said Nicholson.
But despite lofty thinking the band's MySpace biography insists "They are not trying to escape any genuine hardship but are instead playing to convey their disappointment and disillusion with the world that's presented to them.
"The array of songs represent an attitude against modern idealistic thinking and question the current state of affairs we all find ourselves in."
Dead World Leaders will be entering the studio in a few weeks' time to record House of Frauds, The Question and A Life More Ordinary.
"We wrote the House of Frauds ages ago but it's more topical now than ever with the MPs' expenses phenomena.
"There's even a line in the song, 'We're all members of the House of Frauds', that's very poignant right now," says Nicholson.
