Doors open for new jobs with Sheffield business park move

On the move: Ellbee has set up at Ashroyd Business Park.

ONE of the 14 firms which have set up at Sheffield City Region’s new enterprise zone has won a £6 million contract to supply the deep sea oil industry.

X:Cel Superturn beat rivals from America and Asia for the three-year deal to make precision gaskets and sealing rings for operations in the U.S., Brazil, Scandinavia and Singapore.

The company has moved to a 10,000 sq feet facility at the Advanced Manufacturing Park’s Evolution site in Rotherham, where it will make the components.

Andrew Taylor, X:Cel managing director, said: “I’m looking forward to expanding our operations to meet the demands of this new contract.

“Many of our suppliers are based in the Sheffield City Region, and there is a lot of technical expertise in the area, so setting up our flagship operation at the Enterprise Zone was a bit of a no-brainer.”

Meanwhile, another firm moving to an Enterprise Zone site is creating 60 new jobs.

Ellbee is bringing all of its operations from Leeds to the SCR’s Ashroyd Business Park, Barnsley.

Ellbee is the UK’s leading maker of uPVC and aluminium windows, doors and shower enclosures for the caravan and holiday home, DIY, and home improvement markets.

Ellen Cutler, director of inward investment for SCR Local Enterprise Partnership, which runs the zone, said: “Barnsley Development Agency provided Ellbee with a first-class business support package and continues to assist with the recruitment process.

“This is a hugely positive step in the development of the SCR enterprise zone as a UK hub of modern manufacturing.”
