Flying finale to Aston Hall's major expansion

THE final phase of Aston Hall's major expansion, the West Wing, was opened in style with a little help from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance crew.

A summer party, attended by more than 300 people, was held at the hotel to celebrate the opening of the West Wing. Invited guests enjoyed a Champagne reception and barbeque and a tour of the newly opened wing.

Guests were also treated to an appearance from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and crew, who landed on the hotel's lawns. The YAA is the hotel's chosen charity.

The West Wing mirrors the Georgian architecture of the main house and incorporates an additional 29 bedrooms and two new meetings rooms.

The total number of bedrooms the hotel now offers has increased to 52, which includes the recently opened Darcy House, a self-contained red brick Victorian building with six en suite bedrooms. The expansion also includes a fully fitted gymnasium.

Built in 1772, Aston Hall stands in 55 acres of land and was originally designed by York architect John Carr. The Tomahawk Group bought Aston Hall in 2005 and the hotel has been lovingly restored and updated with a cool, contemporary design that is high in style but with all the original features very much intact.

Externally the West Wing has all the exceptional traditional qualities of solid pale stone walls, hardwood white painted sash windows and blue slated roof. Internally it uses up-to-the-minute modern construction techniques and energy-saving devices.

All bedrooms are fitted with contemporary walnut furniture including a floor to ceiling triple wardrobe, an extensive work or dressing table area and 32in flat screen TV with integral DVD player.

Each floor has a different colour scheme so guests can choose the colours that suit them, ranging from cool silvers to warm bronzes and calm sandy hues. The West Wing also boasts luxury wetrooms and stunning bathrooms.

Wellington and Dixon Bead are two first floor rooms that can be used for business meetings. The rooms both have 42in flat screen TVs, pull-down screens, DVD players and surround sound music systems, all housed in a floor to ceiling contemporary walnut cabinet. Both can hold up to 30 people boardroom style or 60 theatre style.

Craig Squelch, general manager at Aston Hall, said: "Since the Tomahawk Hotel Group purchased the hotel in February 2005 it has been completely transformed into the luxury hotel it is today.

"With the opening of Darcy House and now the West Wing, the hotel's facilities have been enhanced and look absolutely fantastic.

"We are very much looking forward to welcoming new guests as well as our loyal customers to the new look Aston Hall and I am sure they will be impressed with the completed expansion."
