French plumbers hope to tap into local hospitality
FRENCH plumbing apprentices will once again be visiting South Yorkshire in September.
Organisers of an exchange programme are looking for families and plumbing companies in Sheffield who can provide accommodation and business placements for these young people.
The apprentices, who are aged between 16 and 18, will be arriving on the September 20 for three weeks and will be work shadowing professionals in heating and plumbing businesses in South Yorkshire for a two-week period from September 29-October 10.
This visit is part of the Les Compagnons du Devoir French apprentices programme.
It has the aim of promoting good relationships between South Yorkshire and the region of France from which they originate and to give the students an all round experience of living and working in England.
Host families are reimbursed for providing lodgings and meals for the apprentices.
Adrian Jones, project co-ordinator for the programme from organisers Business & Education South Yorkshire (B&E-SY), said: "We had a really good response from local families and businesses when we had French apprentices visiting earlier this year and many of them are involved once again.
"Due to the success of the last visit, we have a larger group of apprentices visiting the region this time round, so we are appealing for more families and businesses to come forward to offer places to stay or plumbing work placements for these young people.
"Anyone interested should get in touch with us as soon as possible."
