Golf merger helps to step up drive

Sheffield’s longest established golf equipment business has stepped up its drive into a competitive market place by merging with a fast growing Yorkshire retailer.

Sheffield Pro Golf has joined forces with Scarborough-based Snainton Golf, a move that has seen investment in the Heeley-based store.

A complete refit has seen the introduction of the very latest state-of-the-art computerised FlightScope technology to allow for accurate custom club fitting.

In-house professional, Peter Ritchie, said golfers serious about their game would find the equipment essential if they wanted to reduce their handicaps and would help the business combat internet competition.

He said: “We have improved Sheffield Pro Golf’s website so golfers can check our prices online, but you cannot beat the experience of custom fitting and taking the advice of our in store PGA professionals.”

The refit has also bolstered the businesses equipment, accessories and apparel ranges.

Snainton says the merger will bring an extra level of expertise to the Sheffield operation but stresses that Sheffield Pro Golf’s reputation for keen prices and personal service built up over more than 30 years of trading would be undiminished.

Long standing staff Malcolm Oates and Chris Barker remain, and will be joined by PGA professional Peter Ritchie behind the counter.

“The store has had a complete refit but our friendly, unique corner shop ambience created over the years remains,” said Malcolm.

“It is fantastic that Snainton joined us. It means we are able to help maintain our character and now add a little extra,” he said.
