TWO young female entrepreneurs have come up with an innovative way of winning more customers for their respective business by joining forces and showcasing the other's work.

Sheffield based Katy Thomson of Serendipity Photography and Britain's Got Talent star Sophie Mei will be working together over the next year to help grow each other's businesses.

Katy will be providing Sophie with professional photographic services to build her portfolio as a presenter and performer, while Sophie will be a model for Katy in her photo shoots.

Both women have gone about transforming their lives through their new businesses and the collaboration is the perfect solution to keeping costs down and maximising their advertising budgets.

Katy and Sophie will be actively promoting each other through their promotional material and websites; recommending each other to existing and new customers in the process.

Katy set up Serendipity Photography last year after spending 10 years in teaching. She exchanged her teaching career to follow her dream of being a professional photographer and is already experiencing success with private and corporate clients.

Sophie shot to fame in the last series of Britain's Got Talent but has set her sights on being a successful broadcast journalist.

She said: "Katy takes pictures that incorporate the atmosphere and essence of my performances and it's vitally important that I work with people who share my vision.

"I like people who are determined in starting out on something they really want to achieve. Katy puts people at ease when she's behind the camera and that brings out the best in me – which is great."

Katy said: "Sophie is a great photographic model, which is perfect for me as I get to take pictures in all sorts of situations. The two of us working together like this just makes absolute sense for two relatively new businesses. We are both ambitious women and intend to succeed, if we can help each other along the way, then why not?"

Sophie is also studying at the University of Manchester for a degree in Philosophy and Italian- in order to lay solid foundations for a career in journalism.

Katy was inspired by two of her grandfathers to take up photography; both of whom were respected for their skills. As a child her father's job took her all over the world and travelling is now in her blood. She has been to Nepal, Australia, Vietnam, India, Peru, Thailand, America, Barbados, Dubai, Morocco and most of Europe.

Katy's former career in teaching saw her work in Luton and Sheffield as head of year and head of faculty, specialising in Religious Education, PE and ICT. She went part time before setting up Serendipity Photography in 2008.
