Politics and philosophy from evil gods, broken people HEAR SINGLE

Media bias, pillaging of the earth's resources, Voltaire and effects of mass religion are some of the topics a Doncaster/Sheffield group explores on their debut album.

evil gods, broken people, a two-piece alternative rock outfit based in Sheffield and Doncaster, released their debut CD in February this year.

The band is mute about their background, and do not pose on pictures. All Philip Smillie, on keyboards, programming and effects, and Ian-Paul Ashworth, on guitars, bass, vocals, programming and effects, reveal is "an involvement with the now-defunct 80s and 90s outfit Boolean Matrix". Smillie was a key songwriter and played keyboards, whilst Ashworth took care of business and the band's design and visuals.

On the new CD "let's wreck the planet and end our miserable lives" evil gods, broken people get political. Their lyrics reference madness and the sense of self, pillaging of the earth's resources for financial gain, Western political and cultural hegemony, Media bias and the struggle against free markets, and negative effects of mass religion.

The track 'Crimes and misfortunes' (click on the green play icon to hear) refers to the French philosopher Voltaire.

They describe their style as "twisted mix of alternative/rock/pop/electronica, with a dash of other styles thrown in for good measure", and say their fans have likened their sound to The Comsat Angels, Kraftwerk, The Notwist, Pink Floyd, The Fatima Mansions, Rush and Radiohead.
